About DaQuan Bethea
DaQuan Bethea is a North Carolina–based author whose work lives at the intersection of memory, music, history, and spiritual reflection. Raised in Fayetteville, his writing is deeply rooted in the culture, contradictions, and resilience of the Black South. He doesn’t write to escape where he’s from — he writes to examine it, honor it, and challenge it.
As the author of The Come Up: A Story from the Ville and the novel The Child Beneath the Market House, DaQuan blends lived experience with layered storytelling, weaving together hip-hop influence, ancestral memory, and community truth. His stories explore identity, fatherhood, generational healing, and the quiet spiritual battles many carry but rarely name.
A U.S. Army veteran and graduate of Fayetteville State University, DaQuan brings discipline to his craft but vulnerability to his message. His work is not about performance — it is about purpose. He writes for the youth searching for clarity, for adults still unpacking their past, and for communities ready to confront history without losing hope.
Through fiction, memoir, and children’s literature, DaQuan’s mission is simple: to respark the literary imagination of the next generation while telling stories that feel honest, rooted, and culturally alive.
